How it plays
Atarka costs {5}{R}{G}, has flying and trample, and while it is on the battlefield every Dragon you control gains double strike when it attacks. The ability triggers for any Dragon, not just Atarka: a Dragon that was already on the board doubles its damage the moment Atarka arrives.
Green provides mana acceleration and creatures that fetch lands; red offers Dragons, damage and interaction. The plan is simple to explain and to play: reach seven mana, land Atarka with a board of Dragons ready, and attack.
Mana curve: A bell-shaped curve: cheap acceleration in the first turns, mid-cost Dragons to set up the board, and Atarka, at seven mana, as the finishing point.
Game plan by phase
- Early game
Mana creatures and spells that fetch lands to get a turn ahead, plus fixing so you have both red and green.
- Mid game
Mid-cost Dragons, cost reducers and card-draw engines that keep your hand full.
- Late game
Cast Atarka with an attack prepared: count blockers, open mana and potential damage before declaring attackers.

Bracket and budget
It is a two-colour commander with plenty of common ramp and a simple mana base, which makes it affordable. The Deck Lab list is designed for Bracket 2; if you prefer another budget or more power, we will design it for you.
Weaknesses
The main risk is the high curve: if several mana sources are removed or Atarka faces repeated answers, the commander tax can put it out of reach. Board wipes are the second weakness: it is better not to deploy every threat at once.
How to upgrade the deck
- More two-mana acceleration, such as Arcane Signet, to reach seven mana sooner.
- More Dragons with enter or attack effects, such as Utvara Hellkite or Scourge of Valkas.
- Protection for the commander and repeatable card draw to recover from a board wipe.
- A smoother Gruul mana base, with dual lands that enter untapped.
Frequently asked questions
How does Atarka, World Render work?
Atarka has flying and trample, and while it is on the battlefield every Dragon you control gains double strike when it attacks. That includes Atarka and any other Dragon you already had on the board.
Which colours does an Atarka deck use?
Red and green (Gruul). Green accelerates mana and fetches lands; red provides Dragons, direct damage and interaction.
Is Atarka a good commander to start with?
Yes. Its plan of ramping, playing big creatures and attacking is easy to understand. The main difficulty is managing mana and not deploying every threat before a board wipe.
